Love For Mary

SPECIAL LOVE FOR MARY

The SMM Catholic family has had a very special love for Mary, our Blessed Mother. This special devotion was expressed in many ways, especially through arts.

Once entered the worship area, the visitors will see a beautiful 5 X 7 painting hung on the eastside wall. This magnificent image of Our Lady of Guadalupe was done by Alphonso Jaramillo, one of the founders of this young parish. Whenever a QuinceaƱera celebration takes place at the church, the birthday girl would come before this blessed image and offer herself to the protection of Our Lady.

Outside the church, the visitors will see a small grotto that serves as a background for the statute of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The Our Lady of Guadalupe group was responsible for the construction of the grotto and the donation of the statue. Once the grotto was moved to the new location recently, many people brought candles, flowers, and even deer to express their love for the Blessed Virgin. One interesting observation is that the flowers are very beautiful and they will never die! Plus, the animals do not roam around; they just want to hang out with Our Lady!

There are talks about building a new grotto for Our Lady. Wait and See.

Beginning in May 2010 a new podium on which Our Lady of Grace stands was built by James Fejes, our wood-working master who did all the wood work inside the SMM worship area. It took him two days to finish the stand. The statue will serve as a focus point for those who pray the rosaries at 4:30pm on Saturday during the month of May.

The Catholic Church promotes a special devotion to Mary through seasonal feasts, prayers, and liturgies (CCC #971).

One question for reflection: How do I express my love for Mary?
